What VISV-2026 was about

The event, themed “Showcasing Defence Capabilities, Strengthening Global Partnerships”, featured a seminar on “DRDO Defence Solutions for Partner Nations: From Technology to Strategic Partnerships”. Seth described the four pillars of VISV as guiding principles: vision gives direction for future defence needs, innovation turns research into working technologies, synergy brings together the armed forces, research bodies, industry and foreign partners, and values anchor cooperation in trust and mutual respect. He said India is committed to building a technologically advanced, self-reliant defence ecosystem on the way to Viksit Bharat @ 2047, and that self-reliance will let India contribute more to international partnerships. He acknowledged DRDO’s contribution to strengthening indigenous defence capabilities and the growing role of Indian scientists, engineers and industry in developing advanced defence technologies, and stressed turning research into effective solutions for emerging defence challenges. He also highlighted the role of Atmanirbhar Bharat in strengthening indigenous research, design, development and manufacturing.

Defence exports and partnerships

Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri spoke about the changing nature of defence diplomacy, stressing strategic autonomy, multi-alignment, trust and cooperation in emerging technologies. An interactive discussion on “Avenues for Joint Collaborations and Partnerships” brought together the Department of Defence Production, DRDO, CENJOWS, the industry body SIDM, Indian companies and defence attachés, to discuss partner-country requirements and openings in defence exports, technical exchanges, product adaptation, co-development and co-production. The ministry said VISV-2026 was attended by defence attachés and representatives of foreign diplomatic missions, and gave them a platform to learn about India’s defence research, development and production capabilities. SIDM is the Society of Indian Defence Manufacturers. Aero India, the country’s biggest air show, is held at Air Force Station Yelahanka in Bengaluru.

Why It Matters: Translating DRDO's catalogue for Arabic-, Spanish- and French-speaking countries signals a push to grow defence exports beyond India's traditional buyers.
