What is on sale at the Rajeevika Diwali Mela

The eight-day fair showcases handmade products, traditional handicrafts, handloom goods and Diwali decorations made by rural women’s self-help groups, the release said. Kota Doria saris, Jaipur’s famous blue pottery, traditional embroidery, decorative and household handmade items, doormats, carpets and other handloom products are among the main attractions. Diyas, candles, rangoli, decorations and traditional handmade items for decorating homes for Diwali are also in good demand, DIPR said. Visitors were buying products as well as tasting traditional Rajasthani dishes and food items, the release said, describing a strong turnout on the third day of the eight-day fair. Rajeevika is the state body that works with rural women’s self-help groups across Rajasthan.

Timings, entry and why IGPRS fair matters

The fair runs from 28 October to 4 November, from 10 am to 9 pm every day, and entry is free, DIPR said. In a separate release on 30 October, the state government said it is working to make rural women economically empowered and self-reliant under Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma. Fairs like this give women’s self-help groups a direct market in the state capital during the busiest shopping season of the year. Shoppers looking for Diwali gifts made in Rajasthan villages can visit the IGPRS campus in Jaipur before the fair closes. A separate DIPR release on 30 October told the story of Mamta from Baidkalo village in Beawar district, who helped revive a women’s dairy cooperative that had been shut for about 20 years. The society now has about 80 women members and collects about 400 litres of milk a day, with an automatic milk collection unit, a bulk milk cooler and regular payments, the release said. The government cites such examples as part of its push for women’s economic self-reliance in rural Rajasthan.

Why It Matters: Every purchase at the fair goes to rural women's groups, making it one of the most direct ways to support village livelihoods this Diwali.
