The Indian Air Force’s Sarang helicopter display team called on Chhattisgarh Governor Ramen Deka in Raipur ahead of the Chhattisgarh Rajyotsava 2026 celebrations, the Ministry of Defence said on 29 October 2026.

Sarang helicopter display team meets the Governor
During the interaction, the team briefed the Governor on Sarang’s journey, its participation in national and international events, and its role in showcasing India’s indigenous aviation capabilities through precision flying and synchronised aerial manoeuvres, PIB Raipur said. The ministry said the meeting highlighted the Indian Air Force’s ethos of excellence, professionalism and service to the nation, and reinforced the bond between the armed forces and the people of Chhattisgarh. The team is in Raipur to take part in the Rajyotsava celebrations, which mark the state’s formation day on 1 November. Flying the indigenously developed Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH) Dhruv, the team will show the skill, discipline and teamwork behind its aerial displays.
Key Facts
- Team: IAF Sarang helicopter display team
- Helicopter: indigenous ALH Dhruv

- School outreach: JN Pandey Govt HSS, Raipur, 28 Oct
- Occasion: Chhattisgarh Rajyotsava 2026 (state day, 1 Nov)
Students in Raipur ask about IAF careers
On 28 October, the team interacted with middle and higher secondary students at JN Pandey Government Higher Secondary School in Raipur, the ministry said in a separate release. The programme was organised with District Education Officer Sateesh Nair and gave students a chance to engage with IAF personnel and learn about military aviation. Team members answered questions on entry routes into the IAF, eligibility, educational qualifications and the range of careers available. Sharing their own experiences, the pilots stressed discipline, teamwork, perseverance and dedication to the nation. The ministry said the session encouraged students to pursue their goals with confidence and explore a future in the armed forces, and helped them understand the IAF’s role in safeguarding the country.

Why the ALH Dhruv display matters at Rajyotsava
The ALH Dhruv is designed and built by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), and the ministry said the team showcases India’s indigenous aviation capabilities through precision flying. Through such outreach, the team continues to strengthen the bond between the IAF and young citizens and inspire them to contribute to nation-building, the ministry said. The name Sarang means peacock in Sanskrit, according to the IAF. The visit is part of the IAF’s outreach to connect with citizens and inspire young people to serve the nation, the ministry said. Chhattisgarh was carved out of Madhya Pradesh on 1 November 2000, and Rajyotsava is the state’s annual foundation-day celebration in Raipur. The ministry did not announce exact display timings in either release, so residents should follow official state and IAF announcements for the schedule. Both releases were issued by PIB Raipur on 29 October.
