INS Sahyadri, an indigenously designed and built guided missile stealth frigate of the Indian Navy, arrived at Busan Naval Harbour in the Republic of Korea on 26 October 2026 for the India-Republic of Korea Navy bilateral exercise, the Ministry of Defence said.

INS Sahyadri at Busan: the harbour phase
The ship was given a warm welcome by the Republic of Korea Navy (RoKN), the ministry said. During the harbour phase, personnel of both navies will take part in professional interactions, cross-deck visits, cross-training and sporting events, which are meant to help the crews share operational experience and best practices. The Commanding Officer of INS Sahyadri will also call on senior RoKN officials. The ministry described the visit as another step towards stronger maritime cooperation and better interoperability between the two navies in the Indo-Pacific. The ministry said the visit reflects the growing engagement and enduring strategic partnership between India and the Republic of Korea.

Sea phase with the Republic of Korea Navy
The harbour phase will be followed by coordinated maritime activities at sea involving INS Sahyadri and the Republic of Korea Navy ship ROKS Munmu the Great. The ministry said these would give both sides a chance to strengthen operational coordination and consolidate professional ties. It said the exercise reflects a shared commitment to peace, stability and security in the Indo-Pacific, and the Indian Navy’s wider effort to build lasting partnerships with friendly foreign navies through professional engagement. The ministry did not give dates for the sea phase in its release, and TrendDesh will update this report if they are announced. The exercise is also meant to build mutual understanding and professional camaraderie between the crews, the release said.
Rajnath Singh meets Korean minister at ADMM-Plus
The ship’s visit came as Defence Minister Rajnath Singh held talks with South Korea’s Minister of National Defense, Kang Shin-chul, on the margins of the 13th ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting-Plus (ADMM-Plus) in Cebu, Philippines, on 28 October. The two ministers reviewed growing defence cooperation and discussed ways to co-develop military technologies, deepen joint industry collaboration and promote maritime security, the ministry said. Rajnath Singh is leading India’s delegation at the meeting, which the Philippines is chairing on 28 and 29 October. He also met US Secretary of War Pete Hegseth in Cebu on the same day. The ADMM-Plus brings together ASEAN member states and their eight dialogue partners. In the meeting with Hegseth, the two sides reviewed progress under the India-US Major Defence Partnership and the 10-year India-US Defence Framework, and Rajnath Singh called for a zero-tolerance approach towards nations that support, train or fund terrorist organisations, the ministry said.
