Monthly ranking for government colleges in Rajasthan

The meeting was part of a push, under the Chief Minister’s direction, to improve the quality of education, skill development and the all-round development of students in all educational institutions in the state, DIPR said. Srinivas was interacting with principals of state government colleges at the Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Governance and Social Sciences in Jaipur. He said colleges that perform well should be encouraged. Principals of SPCG College Ajmer, Government College Kota, SBRM Government College Nagaur, Government Dungar College Bikaner, Raj Rishi Government College Alwar, MSJ Government College Bharatpur, Government College Sirohi, Maharana Pratap PG Government College Chittorgarh, Meera Girls College Udaipur and Government Lohia College Churu made presentations on their teachers, classrooms, libraries, laboratories, innovations and achievements.

Key Facts

  • Colleges covered: 669 government colleges
  • Plan: monthly performance ranking through a grading system
  • Venue: MGIGSS, Jaipur, 29 October 2026
  • Target: colleges rated NAAC B to move up to A
  • Also: college-level job fairs, digital libraries

Principals, V Srinivas and NAAC grades

The Chief Secretary told officials to hold talks with principals of at least five government colleges every month and to build an effective system for regular exchange among all 669 colleges, so they can share best practices and innovations. He noted that many government colleges in Rajasthan have a legacy of more than 100 years, and asked that their history be documented and their foundation days celebrated. The National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) grades higher education institutions on teaching, research, infrastructure and governance. Colleges with a NAAC rating of B should be helped through coordinated efforts to reach an A grade, he said. He also ordered that college websites be kept organised and regularly updated, including links to research publications.

Jobs, hostels and digital libraries

Srinivas said work should centre on students’ futures: courses should match international standards and market demand, and skill-based, job-oriented courses should be promoted. Talented students should get chances to show their abilities on national and international platforms, and high-performing teachers should also be encouraged. He asked for job fairs at the college level so students can find work locally, and for more young people to be linked to the MY Bharat portal. He directed proper maintenance and regular inspection of college hostels and stressed digitisation of libraries, saying the state aims to make every student digitally empowered and every college technologically capable. Additional Chief Secretary for Higher Education Kuldeep Ranka and College Education Commissioner Nathmal Didel attended, along with principals and officials of the colleges concerned, some of whom joined by video conference.

Why It Matters: A public monthly ranking could push colleges to improve teaching, results and facilities, which matters to lakhs of students in the state system.
