“The real test of life begins after sitting in a position of responsibility.”

— Rajasthan CM Bhajan Lal Sharma

Advice to probationary officers on public trust

Sharma told the officers to treat their post as a responsibility of public service rather than a position of authority, and to remember their own struggles. “The real test of life begins after sitting in a position of responsibility,” he said. Character and public trust are an officer’s greatest capital, so honesty and impartiality should be the basis of their work, he said. He asked them to build a work culture in which people do not have to make repeated trips to offices and everyone is heard with respect, and said public hearings (jansunwai) should be an effective way to solve problems rather than a formality. Officers should know the eligibility, procedures and timelines of schemes so that benefits reach eligible people on time.

Technology and Viksit Rajasthan 2047

The Chief Minister said digital platforms, online services, data and artificial intelligence offer new ways to make governance more transparent and effective, and young officers should use their technical skills to simplify processes and improve services. At the same time, no one should be denied a government service only because they cannot use technology, he said. Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s goal of a developed India by 2047, he said the state has set the goal of Viksit Rajasthan@2047, with potential in energy, tourism, agriculture, mining, industry, handicrafts, education, health and digital services. He said probationary officers would play an important role in implementing policies on the ground and solving local problems.

Why It Matters: A fixed yearly RAS cycle would let lakhs of aspirants plan their preparation instead of waiting for irregular notifications.
