In a separate release, DIPR said State Election Commissioner Rajeshwar Singh inspected polling booths in Jodhpur district on Friday, where voting in the second phase was held across 17 panchayat samitis. He said voting in Jodhpur district had now been completed in two phases, and that the next tasks, including counting, must be carried out with full fairness and transparency. He reviewed security at counting centres and directed that enough police be deployed and that the set protocol for safeguarding EVMs be followed. He made clear that processions linked to nominations and victories are fully banned and told officials to enforce the order strictly.

Help for elderly and disabled voters at the gram panchayat level

Rajeshwar Singh praised the voter awareness (SVEEP) activities in Jodhpur. He called the posting of women constables at booths, and the use of wheelchairs and Scouts and Guides volunteers to help senior citizens and voters with disabilities, a useful step. He told officials that elderly and disabled voters must not face any difficulty, and that booths must have easy access, drinking water and other basic facilities. District releases from Sawai Madhopur, Bundi and Chittorgarh describe preparations for the later phases of the elections in early November. In Sawai Madhopur, the third phase of voting is scheduled for 3 November in the Bamanwas, Bonli, Malarna Doongar and Khandar panchayat samitis, the district release said. In Bundi, the district administration said voting by postal ballot will be held on 2 and 13 November and reviewed preparations for it. Results will be declared after counting under the State Election Commission’s schedule.

Why It Matters: Sarpanches run village budgets, water and road works, so high turnout shows how closely rural Rajasthan follows these local polls.
