Poshan Maah 2026: Rajasthan ranks second in India with 113.66% of target achieved

Rajasthan ranked second in India for its work during the 9th Rashtriya Poshan Maah, held from 9 September to 8 October 2026, achieving 113.66% of its target, the state Women and Child Development Department said through DIPR on 21 October.

How Rajasthan reached second place in Poshan Maah

During the month, anganwadi centres across the state ran nutrition awareness drives, annaprashan and godbharai ceremonies, identification and management of malnourished children, nutrition gardens and healthy baby contests, DIPR said. Activities followed the department calendar and were coordinated with the health, education, panchayati raj and rural development departments, with daily progress uploaded to the Jan Andolan dashboard. Deputy Chief Minister and Women and Child Development Minister Diya Kumari congratulated the National Nutrition Mission team, officers, district and block coordinators and, above all, the anganwadi workers and helpers. She said the result came from the hard work of “our sisters in the field” and that the government is committed to a malnutrition-free Rajasthan. The campaign was held on the directions of the Union Ministry of Women and Child Development, the department said, calling the result a proud moment that had made history for the state.

Theme and five focus areas

ICDS director Vasudev Malawat said this year’s theme was “Hamari Anganwadi, Hamari Zimmedari” (Our Anganwadi, Our Responsibility), aimed at making anganwadi centres strong hubs for nutrition, care and early childhood development and building community ownership. Activities covered five themes: dietary diversity and adequate protein; freshly cooked hot meals at anganwadi centres; community ownership and accountability; nutrition and early stimulation for child development; and the Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana. Poshan Maah is run under the Ministry of Women and Child Development’s Poshan Abhiyaan, and this was its ninth edition. Annaprashan marks a baby’s first solid food and godbharai is a ceremony for expectant mothers; anganwadi centres use both to talk to families about nutrition. Malawat said the focus on community ownership was meant to make families see the anganwadi centre as their own.

Why It Matters: Poshan Maah rankings track how widely states reach mothers and young children with nutrition services, and the result shows how far Rajasthan's anganwadi network reached mothers and young children this year.
