EVM voting first, then ballot papers for sarpanch

Voting for zila parishad and panchayat samiti members will be held on 22 October from 7 am to 6 pm on EVMs. Nominations for sarpanch and ward panch posts in the same areas will be taken on Friday, 23 October, and voting for those posts will be held by ballot paper on Saturday, 24 October, again from 7 am to 6 pm. Deputy sarpanchs will be elected on Sunday, 25 October. This means phase 1 polling teams must stay in their areas for five days and four nights and handle both EVM and ballot-paper voting, Nayak said. Votes for zila parishad and panchayat samiti member posts from all phases will be counted on Friday, 20 November, from 8 am at the Shri Bhawani Niketan Pharmacy College campus.

Final review and instructions to polling staff

Nayak reviewed phase 1 arrangements on Tuesday with returning officers of all eight panchayat samitis and other election officials. He told them to make every arrangement for a free, fair and peaceful vote and asked all staff to treat election duty as work of national importance, to be done with full honesty and impartiality. He also directed that EVMs be collected at the panchayat samiti headquarters after polling and brought safely to the college campus. Officers including Additional District Collectors Rajeev Dwivedi, Ashish Kumar, Rajendra Singh and Devyani, and Deputy District Election Officer Meghraj Singh Meena attended. In Bikaner, nominations for all 41 zila parishad member posts have been completed and work on the third phase of panchayat samiti nominations is under way, DIPR said separately.

Why It Matters: These rural polls decide who runs village and block-level development in Rajasthan for the next five years. Knowing the dates and booth numbers helps voters plan, especially in a staggered, multi-day process.
