What inspectors found at the Muhana Mandi unit

The raid was carried out by the central food safety team and the team of CMHO Jaipur-II under the “Shuddh Aahar – Milawat Par Vaar” campaign, on the orders of Food Safety and Drug Control Commissioner Avichal Chaturvedi. In the basement, inspectors found about 100 plastic tanks holding different kinds of pickle and raw material. These held about 5,000 kg of ready pickle and about 80,000 kg of raw material, including carrot, raw mango, lemon and chilli, kept for processing. The premises were very dirty, with broken windows and mesh, the release said.

Key Facts

  • Firm: M/s Shri Shyam Foods, Muhana Mandi, Jaipur
  • Seized for destruction: about 85,000 kg (5,000 kg pickle + 80,000 kg raw material)
  • Packed stock seized: about 1,700 kg pickle and sauce
  • Found: about 100 dirty tanks; dead lizards in one or two
  • Action: premises sealed, business halted, licence suspension process started
  • Also checked: Pioneer Natural Products (misleading health claims)

Pickle seized for destruction and samples taken

The team took samples of sauce, mixed pickle and mango pickle for testing. It also seized about 1,700 kg of packed pickle and sauce. Given the risk that the food was contaminated, action is under way to destroy about 85,000 kg of pickle and raw material. To stop the stock from being sold or moved, the premises have been sealed and the food business has been halted until further orders. The designated officer for food safety, Jaipur-II, has been told to start the process of suspending the firm’s food licence under the rules.

Shuddh Aahar Milawat Par Vaar drive continues

Additional Commissioner Bhagwat Singh was present during the action. Officials are examining, prima facie, the definition of unsafe food in Section 3(1)(zz) of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, and the duties of food business operators under Section 26. If lab tests find the products unsafe, penal action will follow under the applicable provisions, including Section 59, which provides for imprisonment and fines. In a separate action in Muhana, the team inspected M/s Pioneer Natural Products and found misleading health claims on food products and an incomplete address on labels. It took samples, seized the related stock and told the firm to stop making and selling those products until further orders. The campaign runs under the guidance of Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma and Medical and Health Minister Gajendra Singh Khinvsar, and the direction of Principal Secretary Gayatri Rathore. The department said negligence on public health will not be tolerated, and that the drive aims to ensure people in Rajasthan get pure and safe food.

Why It Matters: Pickles are eaten widely and often bought loose or from small brands. Raids like this show why buyers should check FSSAI licence details on labels, especially during festivals.
