India Energy Week 2027 will be held in Kolkata from 28 to 31 January 2027, with compressed biogas (CBG) among its key areas of focus, a state-level GOBARdhan workshop in Mumbai heard on 22 October 2026, the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas said through PIB.

GOBARdhan workshop on compressed biogas
The outreach workshop, organised by nodal organisation BPCL, brought together state government representatives and industry stakeholders to discuss ways to speed up the CBG sector, PIB said. It focused on the GOBARdhan scheme, the Model State CBG Policy and the SASCI (Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment) 2026-27 framework. Produced from organic waste and other biodegradable feedstocks, CBG can support cleaner energy, better waste management and value from local resources, the ministry said. The initiative comes as India works to strengthen energy security, diversify its energy mix and promote indigenous energy resources. The workshop also highlighted the opportunities that India Energy Week 2027 will offer to companies working on CBG technologies and solutions, PIB said.

What India Energy Week 2027 will offer
The fifth edition of India Energy Week (IEW) will bring together policymakers, energy leaders, technology innovators, investors and industry from across the world, PIB said. More than 75,000 energy professionals and over 700 exhibitors are expected. Held under the patronage of the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, IEW began in Bengaluru in 2023. Its fourth edition, in Goa in 2026, drew over 6,500 delegates from more than 120 countries, and 17 ministers and deputy ministers from countries including the UAE, Canada, the Netherlands, Oman, Brunei, Myanmar and Tanzania took part, along with bodies such as the International Energy Forum, BIMSTEC and the Eurasian Economic Union, according to the release.
India's energy demand and Maharashtra's role
India’s oil and gas demand is expected to reach 423 million tonnes of oil equivalent by 2030, growing at about 4% a year, with natural gas the fastest-growing segment, PIB said. Refining capacity is estimated to rise to 310 MMT by 2030 from 258 MMT in 2025, while non-fossil fuel capacity is expected to nearly double to 500 GW. The ministry said Maharashtra is central to this landscape, with a significant presence in upstream oil and gas, refining, gas infrastructure and renewable energy. The state is home to Mumbai High, India’s largest producing oil field, and has a combined refinery capacity of 21 million metric tonnes per annum, PIB said, pointing to opportunities for the state at IEW 2027. The ministry said these trends are creating sustained demand for investment, infrastructure, indigenous technologies and international collaboration.
