Commemorative 200 rupee coin released by President Murmu for Mata Sahib Hasi Devi’s 200th birth anniversary

President Droupadi Murmu released a 200 rupee coin in honour of Pujya Mata Sahib Hasi Devi on her 200th birth anniversary at Lok Bhavan in Raipur, Chhattisgarh, on 22 October 2026, the President’s Secretariat said through PIB.

200 rupee coin: size, weight and metal

The commemorative coin has a denomination of ₹200, an outside diameter of 44 millimetres and a standard weight of 35 grams, according to PIB. It is made of a quaternary alloy of 50% silver, 40% copper, 5% nickel and 5% zinc. One side carries the Lion Capital of the Ashoka Pillar, the words “Bharat” and “INDIA”, the rupee symbol and the denomination. The other side bears the image of Pujya Mata Sahib Hasi Devi, marking her 200th birth anniversary and her place in the spiritual heritage of Shadani Darbar. PIB said the coin stands as a tribute to her life, ideals and legacy of selfless service, while celebrating compassion, humanity and women’s empowerment.

Who was Mata Sahib Hasi Devi of Shadani Darbar

Pujya Mata Sahib Hasi Devi was the fifth Peethadhish, or head, of Shadani Darbar, PIB said. She is remembered for her compassion, service and dedication to humanity, and played a significant role in helping and protecting people during British rule. Her life continues to inspire society with the message “Seva hi sacchi sadhana hai aur manavta hi Ishwar tak pahunchne ka marg hai”, which PIB translated as “Service is the truest form of spiritual practice, and humanity is the path to God”. The release of the coin honours her spiritual and social contributions and recognises the legacy of women who have made significant contributions to society, PIB said. It also highlights women’s empowerment, social service and human values.

Who attended the Raipur ceremony

The ceremony at Lok Bhavan was attended by Chhattisgarh Governor Ramen Deka, Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, Rajasthan Legislative Assembly Speaker Vasudev Devnani, Indore MP Shankar Lalwani and Raipur MP Brijmohan Agrawal, according to PIB. The ninth Peethadhish of Shadani Darbar, Sant Dr Yudhishthirlal Sadani, was also present among other dignitaries. On the same day in Raipur, the President also attended the Seva Samman Parv and Yuva Prabodhan held on the occasion of Nuakhai, a separate PIB release said. Commemorative coins of this kind are issued to mark anniversaries of notable people and events; PIB did not say in its release how or when the public could buy the coin. The President’s Secretariat issued the details of the coin, including its metal content and design, in the same release.

Why It Matters: Commemorative coins mark national recognition of a figure's legacy; this one honours a woman spiritual leader known for service during British rule.
