What President Murmu said about Nuakhai

The President said the Nuakhai Milan Samaroh is not merely a cultural celebration but a tribute to India’s rich traditions, social harmony and unity. Such occasions give people a chance to reconnect with their roots, take pride in their heritage and pass on life values to future generations, she said. Nuakhai, she said, celebrates agricultural traditions, expresses gratitude to nature and reflects the spirit of community. The festival reminds us that food is not just a way to satisfy hunger but a symbol of farmers’ hard work, the generosity of Mother Earth and the gifts of nature. She said it is everyone’s collective responsibility to respect food, acknowledge farmers’ contributions and protect natural resources.

A message for youth and Viksit Bharat

Addressing the many young people present, President Murmu said circumstances and challenges may differ, but youth should have a deep drive to innovate, to create something better and to build their own identity. When they align their own efforts with collective and national goals, they pave the way for the nation’s progress, she said. She advised them to dream big, broaden their horizons, keep the highest standards of conduct and place service to society and the nation at the centre of their work, with honesty, integrity and sensitivity. Nation-building is not achieved only through major decisions but also through the small, sincere efforts of millions of citizens, she said. She urged them to combine knowledge with humility, ambition with ethics and success with service, saying these qualities would strengthen their contribution to the vision of a Viksit Bharat.

Women's participation and Chhattisgarh's youth

The President was happy to see a large number of women at the event. India is moving toward the goal of a Viksit Bharat by 2047, and the equal participation of women is essential for it, she said, urging women to take an active part in the affairs of the nation and society. She asked men, especially young men, to create an environment in which their sisters and daughters can pursue their dreams without barriers, and said respect for women must show in behaviour, mindset and daily conduct, not only in words. She also noted that, through the efforts of the Central and state governments and their own will, young people in Chhattisgarh have left the path of Naxalism and joined the mainstream, and the light of development is replacing the darkness of terror.

Why It Matters: The President used a harvest festival to link respect for farmers and food with a call for youth service and women's equal role in reaching Viksit Bharat by 2047.
