How the CISF Cyclothon was run

The ride was organised by the CISF Airport Security Group at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, Mumbai, and started at around 6:30 am. Deepak Agarwal, DIG and Chief Airport Security Officer at Mumbai Airport, flagged it off at Central Park, Kharghar, a CIDCO site. According to the release, the roughly 300 participants included Sanrakshika members and senior officers. The event was part of what the force called its ongoing commitment to physical fitness and a healthy lifestyle, to raising public awareness about the CISF, and to spreading the message of environmental conservation, sustainable transport and cycling culture. The release said the ride was also meant to raise public awareness about the CISF and its work, alongside the fitness and environment themes.

Fitness and an environmental message

The cyclothon was meant to encourage a culture of fitness and healthy living among personnel while highlighting the CISF’s role in securing airports and critical infrastructure, the release said. It also carried a message about adopting environmentally responsible habits and contributing to a cleaner, greener environment, with cycling presented as a low-pollution way to travel. Padmakar S Ranpise, IPS, Special Director General (South) of the CISF, gave prizes to the winners and praised all participants for their enthusiasm. The release did not list the names of the winners or their timings. The force said the event reflected the commitment of its personnel to staying fit and to engaging with the community they serve. Mr Ranpise congratulated the winners and appreciated all participants for their enthusiasm and active involvement, the release said.

Thanks to Navi Mumbai civic bodies

Mr Agarwal commended the organisers for planning and running the event. He also thanked Navi Mumbai Police, CIDCO, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation and other local authorities for their cooperation, which, he said, made a smooth and successful event possible. The CISF said the cyclothon ended by reinforcing the importance of physical fitness, environmental conservation, teamwork and community engagement. The force guards major airports including Mumbai, along with ports, power plants and other critical facilities across India, and regularly holds fitness and outreach events of this kind in the cities where its units are based. The Mumbai event used a single 10 km route around Kharghar. The release was issued by PIB Mumbai on the same day, with photographs of personnel taking part in the ride.

Why It Matters: Public fitness events by security forces promote cycling as clean transport and help the force connect with the communities it protects.
