Rajasthan panchayat election: State Election Commissioner leads voter awareness rally in Sikar

Editor's note: This follows our 25 October report on the State Election Commissioner's inspection of first-phase booths in Jaipur, with his latest awareness drive in Sikar.

State Election Commissioner Rajeshwar Singh attended a voter awareness programme for the Rajasthan panchayat election at Sunrise School in Nechhwa, Sikar district, on Monday, 26 October 2026, according to DIPR.

Rajasthan panchayat election: pledge and rally in Sikar

The release said thousands of school students, young people, women, senior citizens, persons with disabilities and other residents took part. Those present took a pledge to vote and to motivate others to vote. Students formed a human chain, displayed artwork and carried placards with voting messages, and performed cultural items and voter awareness songs. Mr Singh administered the voter pledge, asked everyone to use their right to vote to strengthen democracy, and flagged off a voter awareness rally in which students raised slogans urging residents to turn out. He also planted a sapling under the “Ek Ped Loktantra Ke Naam” campaign.

Rajeshwar Singh asks voters to rise above caste and religion

Mr Singh said the younger generation should be aware of its rights and duties and take an active part in the democratic process. Democracy, he said, means that a civilised society settles its differences peacefully and with dignity. He urged voters to choose capable, committed and thoughtful representatives who understand local problems, without falling for any improper inducement and rising above caste and religion. He said keeping brotherhood and social harmony in villages and districts is as important as choosing a representative, and that since only one candidate can win, everyone should accept the result in a sporting spirit, the way children play games. Elders, he said, should learn from children, show maturity and keep relations and social harmony intact during the polls.

Voter ID and 11 other documents

Mr Singh said voters can use their voter identity card or any of 11 other alternative identity documents prescribed by the Election Commission to prove their identity at the polling booth. He said the commission is holding voter awareness programmes through SVEEP (Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation) activities to raise turnout, so that every eligible voter takes part. District Election Officer Ashish Modi, Superintendent of Police Sanjeev Nain, Zila Parishad CEO and SVEEP in-charge Rajpal Yadav, Sub-Divisional Officer Ashish Sharma and Block Development Officer Roma Saharan were present with teachers and students. The release did not list Sikar’s polling dates; voters should check the State Election Commission’s schedule for their panchayat. The panchayat polls are being held in phases; in Jaipur district, for example, first-phase voting took place on 22 October, as TrendDesh reported earlier from official releases. DIPR issued the Sikar release in Hindi; this report is a translation.

Why It Matters: Turnout in local polls decides who runs village panchayats, which handle roads, water and welfare schemes, so knowing which ID documents are accepted helps more people vote.
