Theme and dates of Vigilance Awareness Week 2026

The Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) observes the week every year during the week in which the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on 31 October falls. This year’s Hindi theme is “Satyanishtha se Samriddhi”, which the Health Ministry’s release translated as “Probity for Prosperity” and the Bhilai Steel Plant release gave as “Integrity Leads to Prosperity”. In New Delhi, Union Health Minister J. P. Nadda administered the integrity pledge to senior officers at Kartavya Bhawan-1, in the presence of Ministers of State Prataprao Jadhav and Anupriya Patel, while other staff joined online. Officers of the Legislative Department and the Department of Legal Affairs took the pledge at Kartavya Bhawan-2, administered by Additional Secretary Dr Manoj Kumar.

Bhilai Steel Plant on transparent procurement

At Bhilai Steel Plant in Chhattisgarh, the week was opened at the Human Resource–Learning and Development Department by A. K. Chakraborty, Executive Director (Materials Management), who paid floral tribute to Sardar Patel. He said building a developed nation needs collective action against corruption, and that transparency in procurement, fairness in tendering and strict following of rules are essential. He said digital platforms and the Government e-Marketplace (GeM) make purchasing more transparent and give all eligible bidders an equal chance. Calling corruption a major barrier to national progress, he said vigilance is everyone’s job, not just that of the vigilance department.

Students and senior officers join the integrity pledge

Sunil Singal, Chief General Manager (Vigilance) and Additional Chief Vigilance Officer, said the week aims to raise awareness of corruption and promote transparency and accountability. Two students, Rohini Kumbhkar of Class X and Sanjana Saw of Class XII, Bhilai Vidyalaya, Sector-2, spoke on the theme. The programme closed with the integrity pledge. Executive Directors Praveen Nigam, Pawan Kumar, Rakesh Kumar, Kamal Bhaskar and Arun Kumar attended along with senior officers. Deputy General Manager (Vigilance) Anshuman Singh conducted the event, and General Manager (Vigilance) Sandeep Gupta gave the vote of thanks. The Health Ministry said its vigilance division is running activities under the Vigilance Awareness Campaign 2026 for officers and staff of the ministry and its subordinate offices and institutes. Its release said the integrity pledge commits officers to uphold the rule of law, act in the public interest and report any instances of corruption to the appropriate authorities, and stresses that the government, citizens and the private sector share the responsibility of fighting corruption.

Why It Matters: The week is a reminder to staff and citizens that government buying and services should be open and fair, and that complaints about corruption can be reported to vigilance officers.
