The Ajmer bus stand, the city’s central bus stand built about 50 years ago, will be rebuilt at a cost of about Rs 70 crore with modern facilities, according to a DIPR release issued in Jaipur on 25 October 2026.

Who will rebuild the Ajmer bus stand
The state government has made the Ajmer Development Authority (ADA) the executing agency for the project, the release said. The redevelopment is an initiative of Rajasthan Assembly Speaker Vasudev Devnani and is being planned with the needs of the next 50 years in mind. On Sunday Mr Devnani held the first coordination meeting on the project with officials of the ADA, the Transport Department, the Rajasthan State Road Transport Corporation (Roadways) and PDCOR. The meeting discussed the proposed plan, the construction outline, land availability and coordination between departments, and PDCOR gave a presentation on the new design of the bus stand. After the meeting, Mr Devnani inspected the existing Roadways bus stand and the arrangements on the campus. The release described the project as a major gift to Ajmer from the state government ahead of Diwali and called it Mr Devnani’s dream project.
Key Facts
- Project: rebuild of Ajmer central bus stand
- Cost: about Rs 70 crore
- Agency: Ajmer Development Authority
- Features: e-bus charging, real-time bus tracking, separate Volvo/AC platforms
- Workshop: to move to Jaipur Road
E-bus charging, digital displays and separate platforms
According to the release, the proposed plan includes high-rise platforms, digital displays, real-time location information for buses, e-bus charging stations, a diesel pump and offices with modern facilities. Separate platforms are planned for Volvo and AC buses and for buses to different cities, so that passengers can reach their bus more easily and services run in a more orderly way. The design will also include a garden, attractive statues and better lighting, with emphasis on easy movement, better waiting rooms and organised bus operations. Mr Devnani said the new design will take into account both modern passenger facilities and the beautification of the city.
Workshop to move to Jaipur Road
Under the plan, the present Roadways workshop will be shifted to Jaipur Road, and Roadways will give some land to the ADA, the release said. Moving the workshop will allow better use of the campus and free up more space for passenger facilities. Mr Devnani told officials to take the plan forward in coordination with all departments and to give priority to modern technology, passenger comfort, smooth traffic and future needs. He said a modern central bus stand would give the city’s transport system a new direction and offer better facilities to people visiting Ajmer. The release did not give a start date or a completion deadline for the construction work.
