Swachhata Hi Seva 2026: Indian Bureau of Mines wraps up month-long drive with Safai Mitra honours

Swachhata Hi Seva 2026 has ended at the Indian Bureau of Mines (IBM), which closed its month-long campaign in Nagpur on 17 October 2026, PIB said on 19 October. The drive ran under the theme “Swachhata Mein Sahbhag, Swachh Bharat, Viksit Bharat” and covered IBM’s headquarters, zonal and regional offices, laboratories and the mines under its jurisdiction.

How Swachhata Hi Seva 2026 ran at IBM

Controller General Pankaj Kulshrestha launched the campaign on 17 September by administering the Swachhata Pledge in Hindi, while Chief Controller of Mines Dr Yogesh G. Kale read it in English. Over the next month, the headquarters in Nagpur, four zonal offices, 14 regional offices, the Mineral Processing Laboratories and mines under IBM organised cleanliness, hygiene, waste management and environmental awareness activities. Teams cleaned public places, residential areas and villages near mines, and worked on identified cleanliness target units and garbage-prone spots. Swachhata Hi Seva is a public-participation campaign under the Swachh Bharat Mission, which was launched on 2 October 2014.

Safai Mitras, schools and e-waste drives

The bureau held health check-up camps for Safai Mitras, the sanitation workers who keep public spaces clean. Swachh Paathshala programmes, walkathons, cyclothons, e-waste collection drives and Waste-to-Art activities were part of the plan. Community outreach and Swachhata Samvaad sessions were held, and schools hosted essay, painting and slogan-writing competitions. Under the “Ek Din, Ek Ghanta, Ek Saath” call, officers and staff joined Shramdaan, or voluntary labour, and a Swachhata Deewar, a cleanliness wall, was put up at the headquarters.

Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam and the closing in Nagpur

Plantation drives were held under the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” campaign. The bureau said the drive reaffirmed its commitment to cleanliness, environmental protection and public participation. At the closing programme on 17 October, Safai Mitras were felicitated for their service and schoolchildren were recognised for their paintings and their part in the campaign. The Ministry of Mines said IBM used the campaign to make cleanliness, responsible waste management and environmental care part of everyday life in its offices and around mining areas. Set up in 1948, the Indian Bureau of Mines is a subordinate office of the Ministry of Mines headed by the Controller General. Its work includes inspecting mines, scrutinising and approving mining plans and schemes, environmental studies, upgrading low-grade ores, and preparing mineral maps and the National Mineral Inventory, according to the ministry. Its offices include ones at Ajmer and Udaipur in Rajasthan, and its Mineral Processing Laboratory and Pilot Plant at Nagpur were set up with help from the United Nations Development Programme.

Why It Matters: Mining areas face heavy dust, waste and scrap. Clean-ups and e-waste collection around mines and IBM offices bring the Swachh Bharat push to places that rarely get attention.
